There are four rules to magic:

Magic is powerful.
Magic is corrupting.
Magic is addicting.
Magic draws the denizens of the Twisting Nether to those who wield the arcane.

Those rules you can always guarantee. Those rules will govern your destiny if you chose to continue down the path as a mage.
